Catalogue Modelling

Cataloque modelling jobsThere are thousands of clothing catalogues produced into the UK alone, and provide a great opportunity for an aspiring model to get his or her foot in the door.

And, with new ecommerce sites starting every day, online product promotion means the market for models is constantly expanding.

Almost all catalogues, whether business-to-business, department store or direct marketing require real models to pose in the clothes they are trying to sell.

In general a catalogue model is chosen because they most closely represent the market segments the products are aimed at. For example, a sporting goods store will pick a model with an athletic figure and toned muscles, and may use the same few models to display a whole line of clothing. However, a lingerie catalogue will require models of a range of different sizes in order to show the best products that have for each body shape.

The majority of high street catalogues use the classic beauty and body shape – tall, slender, healthy with well-balanced features. The theory behind almost all modelling is transference – giving the customer the impression that if they buy this product, they will be as beautiful and happy as the person in the picture.

Catalogue modelling can be extremely lucrative because of the volume of photos that need to be taken. Shooting for catalogues can take days, weeks or even months depending on the size of the catalogue of store you are working for.
